Circus Lion Tamer Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Circus Lion Tamer

Great Lionel, lion tamer, intrepid, bold and proud
Star of circus, daredevil hero of sawdust ring
Bravery second to none never knowing fear.
Introduced by ringmaster steps into the ring
Wearing red satin tights, purple vest, black boots.
Cracks whip with pistol on hip, haughty, impressive
Fearlessly entered cage with contemptuous smile.
Confronting three elderly lions and moody lioness.
Audience cheer, Great Lionel bows and waves,
Cracks whip with three lions leaping onto barrels
Quiet, ready to perform his shouted commands.
But lioness refuses, hungry, wanting her dinner
She ate Great Lionel, leaving whip with black boots.
