Cockcrow At Midnight Poem by Ifeanyi John Nwokeabia

Cockcrow At Midnight

Rating: 3.0

A serene wind slapped the eve
With a hilarious chatter of dusk
Returning tired bodies to their abodes
Engaged in chattering banters of the day
As they trod home like pregnant women
Sleeping tummies are awakened once home
Singing&dancing pots cuddles them like babies.

The aching bones are rested on mats
Enjoying the pleasure of sleeping logs
Ignorant of noisy chirping of night insects
Minds are already on alarm to alert at dawn
A dawn that will separate sleep & death.

A cockcrow at midnight jerks every soul
Tempers rising noisily like river torrent
An omen has been set loose to ruin the earth
In batches & numbers, life must be smoked out of it
No evil shall be allowed to flourish amongst the living
Like weeds, they shall be cut down & burnt.
