Compelling Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Compelling

In the halls of justice,
When overwhelming...
Is the evidence against,
A client lawyers attempt...
To convince,
What has been revealed...
Is not only compelling.
But also horrific proof of guilt.
How can anyone sit,
Disbelieving...
To see and hear done.
When those among the jury,
Had been victimized.
Yet expected to return,
A verdict of innocence.

'What together,
Are they finding to deliberate?
For so long to waste,
Taxpayers money and time? '

-They are debating,
Whether or not...
The video taken,
Could have been produced...
Better than it was.
If those participating,
During the insurrection...
On the United States Capitol.
Were asked to wear masks.
And requested,
To social distance themselves.
During a pandemic.
They should have known,
Could have threatened them.
Before their acts of violence,
Took place.
And directed to destroy,
Their own entitlements! -

'You're kidding?
What an undemocratic,
And thoughtless thing to do.'

-Not only that.
But it proves them to be,
Selfishly self centered.
And unpatriotic as well.-

'Chilling it is.
Appalling and devastating! '

-Tell me about it.
And as I sat,
Watching that video.
Only a few,
Participating in the riot.
Were actually dressed,
As barbaric warriors.
They came to impress to be.-

'Who directed,
And produced the video? '

-Your guess is as good as mine.
That's probably why,
Those who are deliberating...
Are taking so much time,
To discover.
Before that fact is revealed.-
