Coronavirus And The Widow Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Coronavirus And The Widow

Old grandmother isolated in lock-down against Coronavirus
Not seeing children nor grandchildren, many years widow
Only pet dog for company and chirpy budgie in cage
Fearing the virus will strike her down into the grave.
Spends days worrying about family and friends
Speaking with them on telephone, seeing them on skype
As they try keeping her spirits bright with hope alive.
Nights are worse lying abed mind engulfed with terrors.
One day she coughs and finds it hard to breathe
High temperature with difficulty climbing stairs.
Calls for an ambulance and rushed to hospital
Doctors and nurses fight the virus for her life.
Alone, without family, she dies victim of the epidemic
One among millions already being mourned world-wide.
