Dare We Dream Poem by Sharm Siva

Dare We Dream

Animals crowding shelters
Discarded, mistreated, jilted…bereft
Craving for attention, devotion
Nay for food they long
Nay for aegis they seek
Just a loving heart to blanket their lonesome souls
Not to die beneath the prick of a needle

Tiddlers, young ‘uns
Stricken with impoverished fortune
Masking their fears with esurient eyes
Shielding their emptiness with loud cries
Shattering the void of the cold still night

Dare we dream
Of a better ending
For those who cannot speak for themselves
For those whose eyes scream out for help
For those who are, like us
Creatures of God

Dare we dream
Of a finer fate
For those whose destinies are uncertain
For the famished, the tainted, the lost
The innocent

Dare we dream
Of a life
Where sorrows
Where pain
Where worries and disdain
Disappear

Dare we dream
Of a tomorrow?

How true. Fine penning. I love dogs and cats. I have 5 dogs that include a black labrador, a shar pei lab, a golden retriever, a plot hound, and aerdale. They are truer friends than people and always happy to see me.
