Dark Love Story Poem by Simon Collins

Dark Love Story

I couldn't be there
present and accounted for
to take one for the team
keep those wolves from the door
it's not the cold that gets you
mixed with hunger pulling tight
or the pitched ghost of darkness
swallowing the night
but when your pride stands surely
as inside your heart it must
fails to speak the language
of common rules and trust
so the candle dances madly
in its struggle to survive
blow! I dare you demon
test my will for light
this could be a story
full of endings strung on rope
but bit by bit comes beauty
through a heart filled with hope

A very strong willed poem with just enough rhyme to give it flow but not too much to take away the strength in the words survive blow. Great poem skillfully written.

loved this one, especially the last six lines! the defiance of the heart that survives!
