Death In Slow Motion Poem by Rachel Brewer

Death In Slow Motion

Your blood fell down my arm like the soft flowing water of a river.
Your eyes that once sparkled like the stars shone no more.
I felt your pulse slow, and I felt the heat drain from your body.
It was like watching death in slow motion,
Because I didn’t want you to go.
I would have put my blood into your body,
And I would have given you the sparkle from my eyes.
I would have sped up time to make your pulse race again,
And I would have held you, so close, to make heat flow through you once more.
These are the things I wish I could have done on that day,
That day they took you from me.
That day I wish I could wipe from my memory.
Because, having loved you,
I feel the greatest pain in the world losing you.
