Death Unaware Poem by Kingsley Egbukole

Death Unaware

Rating: 5.0

The Agama lizard sights a grasshopper at noon
Across the tarmac basking in the sun
It hungers to cross to have a meal
Left and right it quickly turns its head
To detect any lurking danger nearby
Unaware of the fast approaching car

It took a burst of a dash to cross
The front left tyre spared the poor creature
But the rear right tyre crushed the head
As it was about to shout hurray!
The driver sped away unknowingly
While the lizard's tail continued to twitch in death.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
We cannot determine what will happen the next minute. Life is ephemeral and death can come unawares especially when we are planning for something good/big. If the Lord does not watch a nation, the watchmen keep wake in vain

Imagery and metaphor spells it a good poem but painful indeed. Accident really not happens all the times. God given us the spine to make the world for us. At the same time uncertainty stitched with the blanket. Yet faith is our only shelter to rest for

Death comes like a thief in the night. So true, life is ephemeral. A wonderful depiction of life and death.
