Defeated - Poem by Andrew Williams

A broken bottle beside me
I lay in the gutter
defeated, with glass cutting into my soul
The result of a descent into a deep dark hole
with no escape
every moment i lay still i can hear life leaving my body
soon i shall lie still forevermore
defeated like a wounded animal.
