Demon's Stalking Tread Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Demon's Stalking Tread

Should love like some wondrous dream
Upon our waking vanish then be lost forever
Visions of sweet fancy too, crushed in the flow
With only despair and loneliness remaining
Hearing echoes of the stalking demon's tread
Preying upon love's needs and high ideals.
Would purpose turn beauty into ugliness?
Shadows of desolation be overwhelming
Grieving the spirit breaking the heart asunder
With terrors of Hell the mind cannot tolerate?
Oh, where ride forth king Arthur's knights of old
Galloping upon white chargers to the rescue
With sword and shield rescuing failed lovers
Chained and broken in dungeons of despair?
