Desertedcorpse! Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Desertedcorpse!

Rating: 5.0

The curfew being relaxed
I saw an ad for a teacher
and went to the odd place
at the far end of the town.
An old bungalow with locked gates
made me walked up and down
the desolate boulevard.

Suddenly I saw a lady there
wearing a long black veil
and covering her head and face,
with flaming eyes, and asked me
the reason for my visit.
" For the post of teacher.....",
before I said, she went in straight
without pushing the door.
"May be automatic......",
I whispered to myself.
Ten minutes later, I pressed
the calling bell that was dead.
I pushed the door, calling her
and got in. To my shock and alarm
I found the corpse of a lady,
might be a victim to Covid,
was lying on a table.
I retreated and rushed back home
and isolated myself for a week
telling my siblings,
that " I'm unwell".
