What makes someone become better,
At doing what it is they do?

That depends.
Some feel they have sacrificed enough,
Just by getting out of bed in the morning...
To go to a job to do a routine with lesser effort.

Some have a purpose to do nothing but vegetate.
These people are best at excuse finding.
Suggest 'anything' that will make them feel better...
And it will be their lifestyle they will without end defend.

What makes someone become better,
At doing what it is they do?
