Desire Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Desire

No one can stop,
A desire...
From burning inside.
To have it denied to hide.
Or even try to disguise.
It has to burn out.
With every flicker.
Burn out.
With every flicker.
Burn out.
With every flicker.
'Til those flickers quit
It has to burn out.
With every flicker.
Burn out.
With every flicker.
Burn out.
With every flicker.
Like a flame does to a wick.
Exhausted!

Like a flame does to a wick.
Exhausted.

Like a flame does to a wick.
To exhaust it!

"Whew!
My goodness.
When you said you felt desire.
I had no idea,
You would have me...
Caught up in the fire."

-You ready for more? -

"No!
Are you kidding?
Not right now.
Save some of that for tomorrow night.
I desire sleep.
And you should be too! "
