Dhammapada 1-2 Poem by Ravi Kopra

Dhammapada 1-2

We are our thoughts of yesterday
Tomorrow we will be of today.
Our mind creats our life -

If maligned, suffering will follow
Like a cart's wheels following
The steps of the beast.

If pure, like a shadow
Happiness will follow you. (1-2)

1. Mind precedes all mental states. Mind is their chief; they are all mind-wrought. If with an impure mind a person speaks or acts suffering follows him like the wheel that follows the foot of the ox.

2. Mind precedes all mental states. Mind is their chief; they are all mind-wrought. If with a pure mind a person speaks or acts happiness follows him like his never-departing shadow.
