Diamonds Are Forever - Poem by Dilantha Gunawardana

Glistening are her glorious facets in her emphatic glamor
In an extravaganza of beauty in her mystical white pallor
She was spawned deep within the womb of mother earth
As she transcends her roots to bequeath tides of mirth
Her nativity story was spawned from the fetal land of mother Africa
In the pits of a mine shaft ensheathed by a diaphanous theca
She waltzes with her lover the ingenious kimberlite
Yet she metamorphoses from her sheath to capture lucent light
She bequeaths her virginity to the palms of man
The transcendence of her birth rite from her indigenous terrain
A picturesque stone of carbon in her exquisite purity
Excavated from the profundity of abyssal obscurity
A goddess veneered with coats of molten glass
Exceeding in beauty like Cleopatra sculpted of glass
She stands on one foot from the nadir of her culet
As she pirouettes on titanium echelons like a twirling islet
She woos with her soul and dazzles with her thousand faces
As love waltzes in to the heart of a goddess in her intricacy of laces
She presides at nuptials, as a ring exchanges hands
A symbol of an eternity of love encrypted in shimmering bands
As an apical pledge parts from a pair of lips - the promise for an eternity
As lips converge on an elevated alter to mark the advent of felicity
Narrative folklore recounts that she is a perpetual force
As a diamond on a ring pledges love in her truest source
