Dooglebug Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Dooglebug

Rating: 5.0

Hitler's terror weapon in World War Two, the V1 flying
bomb, range 150 miles, speed 350 mph.9,521 launched
against Britain.
.
Pilotless
With engine sounding like a tractor
Flying above the white cliffs of Dover
Heading for London until fuel runs out
The falling silently to the ground
Exploding a house into rubble
Burying both living and the dead.

People are cowering in Anderson shelters
Hear the distant buzzing sound
Knowing a doodlebug is coming
And fearful when roaring engine stops
Terrified mothers hug their children
Praying the bomb will fall elsewhere.
