Drastic Changes Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Drastic Changes

Persistent and consistent discipline,
Takes the breaking to leave behind...
Those comfortable habits.
Many will find not easy to let go.
As if the doing done,
Will be to abandoned friends.
And an old neighborhood,
One admits is overdue for improvement.
But remaining to stay,
Kept to keep talking...
Repeatedly to hear the same things,
Over and over again is refreshing.
This is a must to trust it.
So dependable a sameness is for some done.

With reliable excuses to make,
Supported by accusations made.
For some comes as a relief.
"Ahhhh...whew...thank YOU GOD! "
Just to hear others too are convinced,
That a doing of too much discipline...
May eventually cause,
Drastic changes in their lives.
And this permitted and allowed to happen,
Is a threat to judgements and criticisms passed.
Leaving no one to recognize,
What it was enjoyed to complain about.
And this will destroy,
All familiarity one has had with nonsense!
