Dream Shadows(Fù Dé) Poem by Perdita Young (Hanna Wang)

Dream Shadows(Fù Dé)

A Verse inspired by a famous line: "Last night I dreamt of petals falling/into the tranquil pond" from the famous Chinese poem "A Moonlit Night On the Spring River" (chūn jiāng huā yuè yè) , by zhāng ruò xū.

Last night my dreams fluttered at such ease,
Like gauze curtains winged by the light breeze.

The full moon floated on the blue pond,
And fallen flowers strewed dams untrod.

By clear stream, girls washed kerchiefs aglow,
And boys shaping clay into a crow.

Among leaves cicadas chirped chattered,
Near lotus stems shrimps and fish clustered.

Under willows, girls played "match-my-flowers",
In yonder hollow, boys piled sand towers.

Bamboo flute was heard on the country roads,
And wafting music echoed in the reeds.

The old memories are back in new light,
Nostalgia embellished rosy and bright.

Lost I felt, waking from the colored dream,
Dears of old are far as the skyline gleam.
