Driving North When The Sun Rises Over The Mountains Poem by Glen Kappy

Driving North When The Sun Rises Over The Mountains

Rating: 5.0

In traffic
driving north
to work

sudden light! —
through my passenger window
and into the cabin of my car
and reflected on the car ahead—

and I glimpse—for a moment—
that the world is good—
yes, I know the world's still good.

Despite all sham and cruelty, all violence and bloodshed, all darkness and confusion, the world is good and it is worth living here....! Through darkness, light can come in anytime, brightening our lives and giving us hope. A metaphorical write!

thank you, valsa. and i may have said this before, even a little bit of light, of beauty can make up for the negatives you mention and recalibrate our perspectives if they have too long focused on them. may you be very well and thriving, glen

You are moving into soul-territory as well as mountainous territory. The light brings a special benediction on you and it spreads out into the world you are racing over. You were ready for this landscape to transform into something more than physical as all of this scene carries the truth of GOODNESS present and compelling. This is a prelude to prayer, an assurance of an abundance of life.

i don't know why it is that light—particularly the light described, the light that morning—should have that effect on me. but it did, and i'm guessing, because i don't remember, that it did indeed lead to prayer of gratitude. there is so much that is beautiful in this life, and paul, inspired by the holy spirit as we hold, rightly encourages us to focus on those things. what health and healing such meditation brings. thank you, good brother, for your comment. -glen

Hi Glen, how are you? I have been away from PH for a while. But am back now to read your beautiful poems. Last weekend, i went on a pilgrimage to the interiors of Maharashtra. Strangely enough, when i went driving, early morning, i saw the beautiful glow of sunrise. Just like how you have described in this poem.
