Duty Poem by priyanka choudhury

Duty

That night they lay, arm in arm,
heavy with the weight of words sparred
Looking into the black night around….
The inertia of illusion had passed.

And as she weeped with a last hope
That he would gather her in her arms
He shuddered and turned away
Withdrawing his aching hand
Let the moment pass.

He touched her gently
Expecting her to melt in his embrace
The cold touch, the love lost look
She broke into fresh tears
He lost his patience and she her place.

One moment passed, then another
They felt the warmth dying

Night had stolen the sweet dreams of love
Morning saw two loveless bodies dutifully lying.

P.S.- readers, this poem is a reflection on how love moves on but relationships stay. How passion moves on, but habit makes two bodies dutifully have sex.
