Each Stage Of Aging Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Each Stage Of Aging

Nothing prevents,
Each stage of aging.
Or a wish to get consent,
To stay at one phase.
More to enjoy.
Than moving on to another.
With only memories to take.
Kept but to be replaced,
By new ones to not yet face.

And this to experience,
To have never done before.
Can not be ignored.
With this to explore the unexpected.
Done to realize,
More life to have lived...
Is frequently reminisced.
Leaving one who is aging.
Missing the ones still to love.
As well as those events,
Stirred up to create petty arguments.
And remembered most to bring a smile.

"I know you are not going to wear 'that'!
Nothing matches."

-If we are going together,
It will be known who dresses to impress.
And who could care less.
Knowing their only interest.
Is the food to either eat,
Or leave it to go unaddressed.-

"Is that all you care about."

-Yes.
Especially if I'm not paying for it.
You have 'your' priorities.
And so do I.-

"I don't know what it is I see in you."

-Well...
It certainly didn't have a thing to do,
With the way I dressed.
Did it?
In fact,
It was the way I undressed that turned you on.-

"Oh yeah?
But then,
I had a more youthful imagination."
