Effective Communication Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Effective Communication

When the mouth is closed.
Leaving the eyes opened wide to focus.
And the ears begin to hear,
With a doing to pay attention.
To other voices speaking.
Without interrupting incomplete sentences.
Done to allow another to finish,
What for them is an attempt to be understood.
Hoping this communicates comprehension.
This...
Known to some,
Is called effective communication.
This...
Unknown to those unfamiliar with understanding,
Is called...
'I WISH THEY HURRY UP.
AND FINISH WHAT MAKES NO SENSE.
AND BESIDES,
WHO WANTS TO PAY ATTENTION...
TO SOMETHING 'I' AIN'T INTERESTED IN.'
