Embarrassment Of Riches Wished Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Embarrassment Of Riches Wished

And here it is.
An embarrassment of riches wished.
Providing an overabundance,
Of promises to delude.
And more of them to get.
While allowing to follow,
In devoted blindness into an abyss.
Yet the image to symbolize,
Is nothing more...
Than a non-existent oasis.
Kept to believe everyone will receive.
As announced by the ones,
Gifted with talents to lie and deceive.

And here it is.
Budding from a seed.
Into a full bloom of corruption and conflict.
Highlighted with scents,
Of racism and division few can miss.
With a touch of turmoil and chaos.
Implemented by those picked to sit,
In positions to make...
Incompetent decisions to satisfy their taste.

Fed to feed the masses,
More of this and that to get.
While the status quo cheers,
Their approval and support to give.
With a hypnotized and unconscious,
Subdued mindlessness.
Gone...
From many,
Is their common sense.
Once effectively to have been used.
Now refusing to acknowledge,
The disappearance of truth.
Along with laws and rules.
Too distant from memories.
To remember when,
They began to be abused and by who.

And here it is.
Up close, up front,
To touch noses and eyes.
An embarrassment of riches wished.
Wanted more by many,
To be disguised and less realized.
As an overflowing of ignorance permitted.
Too noticeable but not yet to convince,
The ones who chose and deliberately picked...
Who should and could,
Lead them to the land of prosperity.
Have done just that.
Led they have been,
To a land where they can prosper together.
Disparities, anguish and disrespect.
Had by all.
With delusions intact.
To accept this as that to be factual!

"Oh...
What fools we mortals be."

-When did you awaken to discover that?
Was it before or after,
We were both told to plunge into a pit.
And await for the blissful rays,
Of enlightenment to dawn upon our minds! -

"I'm just saying what we are.
I ain't trying these days,
To be poetic about it."

-Sure.
Says a Shakespeare wannabee.-

"Ssssshhhh.
Let's inspect the silence together."

-Alas!
You can kiss my...
Leave me alone.
Can't you see what we've condoned.
With nothing between us shown,
But a mutual sharing of stupidity.-

"I doubt if we can claim,
Exclusive ownership of that to have."
