Endeavor To Love
I do not love you like my favorite food.
Or like a beautiful view.
I do not love you for your attraction or your value.
I do not love you for your worth.
Nor do I endeavor to love you
Like a sinner or a saint,
Because one of us is tainted
And the other must play the savior.
I do not love you as if you were an ammonite.
I am not digging for your mystery.
I am not diving for your lost soul.
I see you here as you are with me
In all of our mutual fragility
And I feel the energy that flows.
There is a harmony somewhere deep in our humming.
Something in you is in tune with my moods.
Some part of you hears what I can't say
And answers back in the same way.
Wherever you are, I feel you.
Whatever your needs, I feed them,
Without calculation or expectations
Of reciprocity or appreciation.
I do not judge in love.
I do not measure.
But somewhere on a deeper plane
What is given fills me
And brims over into compassion
For all.
