Epidemic Poem by Colin Ian Jeffery

Epidemic

Rating: 4.0

Like cancer
Destroying body
Coronavirus closes down
Heart and lungs.

Science struggles
Countries close borders
People self-isolating
Wearing face masks.

Panic and chaos
As unseen enemy claims more lives
People losing jobs and hope
Businesses gone, people starving.

World overwhelmed
Never same again
Light of humanity fading
Despair and darkness giving reign.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

The debilitating effects of the epidemic COVID-19 on economies and human health all over the globe has been well explained in the poem. Humankind is probably facing the worst pandemic in last hundred years, without a visible remedy. Truly, the prevailing situation is as dismal as the poet has portrayed: 'Light of humanity fading Despair and darkness giving reign.' I wonder if the last word of the sixth line should be read as 'borders' instead of 'boarders'!
