Ethnic Ancestry Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Ethnic Ancestry

Your argument to start it.
Is not with me.
Too comfortable with truth I live.
And proud I am,
Of my ethnic ancestry.

It is you and not me,
Needing to feel superior over others.
Or attempting to convince,
I was born with 'good' genes.
For the purpose to be noticed.

I have been the me I am to be.
And for whatever the reason,
You believe your insecurities...
Are in need to hear my apologies.
But unlike you I was not born,
Or raised to make excuses...
For being proud.
Without acceptance or approval to seek.

Your argument to start it.
Is not with me to begin.
Too long I have lived,
In this skin.
Loving every moment.
Regardless who may believe,
It's not me I wish to be.
But someone else to envy!
