Facing The Music Poem by John Thorkild Ellison

Facing The Music

However hard I try to pretend
That you see me as more than just a friend,
I know when I see that look on your face
That it isn't true, it's just not the case,
And I've been foolish with this dream
That things are different from what they seem,
I've been banging my head on a hard brick wall
Because you don't cherish me at all.
It'd a bitter drink that I have to swallow
But I'll drink what I must, and I will not wallow
In grief and self-pity. I'll try to be strong
And admit at last that I've got it wrong,
You'll never love me like I love you,
It's romantic fantasy, it's just not true,
Though I'd give up my life, I'd pay any price
For us to be One in my Paradise.
