The U.S. War on Poverty
Was not intended to be won
By the U.S. powers that be
With all the spending that be done.
'Twas the federal government
Using lots of sleight of hand tricks
To make the poor feel more content
About Big Brother politics.
Entitlement and welfare stuff
Just kept increasing without pause.
We the People can't get enough
Of goodies from Fed Santa Claus.

Now haves let have nots have much more
That have nots did not have before.
