Finish Fetish Poem by gershon hepner

Finish Fetish

Did Elohim, with finish fetish,
create by being aleph-betish,
and did He hope with resh, shin, tav
to end this so-called labor love,
or did He, as a mere beginner,
make errors, a creator-sinner
without a formulated plan
for exit, ending up with Man?

Inspired by a visit with Zachary to an exhibition at the LACMA of the work of contemporary Southern Californian artists, including “finish fetish” artists like John McCracken, and others who consider light a medium that can take on a solid, ethereal quality, like Robert Irwin, James Turrell, Doug Wheeler, Craig Kauffman, Larry Ball and Bill Al Bengston.
