First Hand Poem by Lauren Coles

First Hand

People can't be at two places at once,
That's literally impossible,
You can't count the number of days you are going to be here,
Nobody wants life to pause or end,
We don't know why old people lose their memory,
People might not remember why they started drinking and hanging around with the wrong people,
People who really care about you don't want you to leave the world too soon,
In my opinion angels are real,
They could watch you in movies,
People want to pull to the trigger too early but they might be too late to dream,
I'm writing this because I was in your position,
Writing is so important but we don't all have the writing gene in our veins,
As a volunteer with the elderly I knew that I didn't want to be around when people died
So kudos to the strong people who do.
