First Hunt Poem by K J

First Hunt

My hunger is beyond any reasoning now. I'm shaking in my pale skin as the last of the sunlight drops into the oncoming darkness. They tell me that I've been almost "patient", I'm assuming that's somewhat of an exaggeration. My veins feel like they are filled with liquid fire and my new grown teeth ache to pierce human flesh, any human flesh. I step out into the night and the chill in the air is invigorating.

Not much time passes before I see him. The one. My first human sacrifice. His dark hair glistens under the moonlight and I can hear his beating heart from 100 paces as I walk behind him. I quicken my silent steps and come upon him quickly. He has no time to scream, my teeth sink in to his young strong throat and sweet euphoria dances across my lips. I drain him slowing, feeling his heart finally stop. Yes, I killed him, for it was way too soon to creature another creature such as myself. I looked into his dead blue eyes and whispered, "Trust me. It's better this way"
