Florida As I Observed. Poem by Nabakishore Dash

Florida As I Observed.

Rating: 5.0

South-eastern state of USA,
Nick named as
the sun shine state,
A peninsula,
One side is Atlantic Ocean,
the other side is the
gulf of Mexico
with hundreds of miles
of beaches.
Clean and wide roads,
flanked on either sides
by American Elms
tall palms, coconut trees,
luxuriantly branched Elms
provide great shade,
nice homes for
Iguanas, bees, squirrels.

Predominant shops are
Costco, Dollar trees, Alde,
Big malls, Publix, Wall marts.
International cuisines are
available in different big
resturants.

A naturally beautiful city,
traffic rules are strict.
Law abiding citizens
stay in bungalows with
excellent spaces around,
temporary homes and
big communities with
all amenities.

A special feature is the
presence of hundreds of
Inter-connected lakes
from which water
is supplied.
Milk white Ibis, turtles
snakes, alligators
inhabit,
ducks with differently
coloured plumages
swim merrily with ducklings.

Mixed, black, white populations
are marked on the roads
and streets.
Smiles with good morning,
every one exhibits.
Almost half of old citizens live
a solitary life.
What a culture they practise
very often bothered me.

Squirrels, grackles(black plus blue) ,
Ibis forage together freely
without any animosity.
Perhaps that togetherness
lacks among black and
white men in this
trees, parks, lakes abundant city.
However, cars run
speedily and parking areas
are in plenty.

Clouds always in the sky,
brief and heavy showers
suddenly occur with
highly fluctuating Weather.
A day may be sunny, cloudy
and rainy, the same conditions
may be repeated even thrice
all together.

Roses come with thorns.
A city, full of natural scenes
and beautifully planned,
has bit of undesirable
weather conditions.

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

I concur with your thoughts as expressed in the ultimate stanza. A person, place or anything does not have the monopoly of great attributes. We always have a cross in our life's journey. Brilliantly presented poem.
