Forgiveness Poem by Holly Jamestone

Forgiveness

If you are able to forgive
Then you are free to live
To proceed onward from the past
To feel relief and peace at last

* * * [I forgave my ex-husband for pain inflicted during my pregnancy
and later wrote this to explain to my grown daughter the reasons why.]

Forgiveness is accepting
Things that happened and just knowing
They do not rob you of your grace
Nor guide where you are going

It’s wrapped in peace just like a gift
In all its clear dimension
And lined with trust that who you are
Forgives life’s worst intention

It’s going forward, head held high
No matter where you’ve been
And knowing since it brought YOU here
I’d do it all again

It’s being proud of who we are
And all the paths we’ve known
It’s choosing high roads filled with grace
And never dying alone

It’s knowing that each step we took
Has brought us to this place
A mother-daughter special bond
Through all that we must face

It’s going forward, head held high
No matter where I’ve been
And knowing since it brought YOU here
I’d do it all again
