Four Pearls Inlaid Ornament [94- 96] Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Four Pearls Inlaid Ornament [94- 96]

94. The tippler knows the pain of not drinking toddy.
The lark knows the ache of not getting water.
A polygamist knows the misery of poverty.
A thief knows the agony of hiding things.

95. The rude people speak unsavoury words.
Even in bad times, the learned wise don't speak evil words.
The great men don't speak the words of evil men.
Deceitful words burst out of the mouth of lowly men.

96. A man sans beauty is not respected among the beautiful maids.
An unlettered is unknown in the assembly of the learned.
An educated man is ignored in the assembly of the illiterates.
A wise man has no recognition in the presence of the fools.
