Freedom Of Choice Poem by Adrian Flett

Freedom Of Choice

What happens when rules are shed, no longer
respected or obeyed?
We display no guilt drive on, seem stronger,
use mendacity, half-truths to further our way.
Without restraint we're able to voice
and abuse the use of freedom of choice.

Freedom signifies ability to select
without confinement or moderation;
none other commanding the formulation,
or imposing bondage on what we elect.

But the terrible responsibility of freedom of choice,
so seldom thought of or given a voice,
is to live and function without fetter or bond
while to the rights and benefits of others, also to respond.

A person's need to live, function without restraint
but also reciprocate, act with consideration,
and the need for circumspection;
all ideas that with the power of freedom resonate.
