Frigid In Fairbanks Poem by gershon hepner

Frigid In Fairbanks

In Fairbanks women who are frigid
carve sculptures out of ice
in winter, when their hands are rigid,
and water freezes in a trice.
A frigid woman can be hot
when working with a chisel
especially when sun is not
around to make them sizzle,
but when the water doesn't freeze,
I wonder, do they climax
like melting poets for whom trees
are lumbered with a rhyme-ax?

Bruce Weber write from Fairbanks, Alaska, about the 'frigid women' who have entered the first all-female team in the International Ice Art Championships that are held annually in Fairbanks each March ('It Takes Creativity to Thaw the Soul: In a City of Frozen Dusk, Galleries and Theaters Are True Lifesavers, ' the NYT, February 4,1999) .
