From The Talmud Poem by Dr. Antony Theodore

From The Talmud

Rating: 5.0

When Akiba was on his deathbed, he bemoaned to his rabbi: "Rabbi, i am a failure. I have not achieved anything in my life. Why should I live like this? "

His rabbi moved closer to him and asked why.

Akiba confessed: "I did not live a life like Moses. I am just a failure". The poor man began to cry and said: " I fear God's judgement".

At this the rabbi hugged him and told in his ear: "God will not judge Akiba for not being Moses. God will judge Akiba for not being Akiba".

This is not a story from the Talmud, and the real story isn't about R. Akiba (Akiva) . It's about R. Zusia of Hanipol (Anipoli) , a Hasidic master from the 18th century. Google it.

This is not a story from the Talmud. Rather, this is a well-known story about Reb Zusia of Hanipol (1718-1800) , a Hasidic rebbe (holy teacher) , also known as a tsaddik, an extremely righteous man. Here is the full story:
