Georgia At My Side Poem by Ronald Strickland

Georgia At My Side

So many years have gone,
since i left my Georgia home.

In a uniform, i pack home on my back,
and my brothers cried in pain as they
laid beside me.

Memories shared of those who have gone,
as i sat in silents and tears.

Mother, i need you! If only to hear you say,
everything will be OK.

The explosion! If only it was me,
having a childish tantrum and slamming a door.

Sounds in the darkness are greater than
my childhood fears. A cry for mommy in
silents so others would not hear.

Take me back to Georgia when I'm gone,
she has always been my home.

Walk beside me and hold my hand.
Listen to what my heart has to say.
not what others say who shares gossip
that comes their way.

With Georgia beside me, I'll return someday.

Know me and the battle fought.
Stand close as a friend and understand my
thoughts,
life's battles together will be fought.
