Get On The Yueyang Tower

★ Get on the Yueyang Tower

☆ Poetry by Dufu(712-770, Tang Dynasty, China)
☆ Translation by Luo Zhihai (1954-, China)

Once heard of Dongting Water
Today get on the Yueyang Tower
It’s between Wu and Chu southeast
Sun and moon undulates on it day and night
But no letter has reached from kin or friends of mine
My old age being eaten up with diseases in a lone boat
In the north of the Guanshan Mountain, there are many army horses
I flow tears and nasal mucus by the window

Note: Dongting Water, namely Dongting Lake. The second largest freshwater lake in China. It is located in the northern part of Hunan Province, the South Bank of Jingjiang reach of Yangtze river.
