Late Swallow - Poem by Luo Zhihai

★ Late Swallow

☆ Poetry by Bai Juyi (772-846, Tang Dynasty, China)
☆ Translation by Luo Zhihai (1954-, China)

Hundred birds have fed their babies at the breast
But only an autumn swallow idles away
Near comes She Day
Why does it hold the mud in its mouth?
Doesn’t think the season is late
Lashes the waves
Everything on earth is same
Not only swallow nests

Note: She Day, is the Autumn Day in ancient.

    Hundreds of birds have already
nurtured and fed their babies except
the autumn swallow that loves to play
the She Day is here, and now
it is mouthful of mud for its nest
Doesn't she think it is already too late?
No.She lashes her wings in the air.
    Everything on Earth is ideal
    except the lazy autumn swallow
    building its nest for babies.
