I turned left
at: 'Uh oh...big mistake! '
Kept going straight
past: 'I wish this was a dream & I could wake! '
Went 'round in circles
until I found myself: l o s t.
Hung a right
at: 'Nothing left! '
Took a shortcut
only to end up at: 'Wot de f***! '
Pressed on
past insanity
until I reached the madness
of losing you.
Finally I had arrived
at where
I didn't want to be!
As always(do I repeat myself...very well then...I repeat myself) you have a unique way of presenting something that is just not...quite as others would see it and you startled us into a new awareness of something hackneyed. I admired the dexterity of the language and how you play with it until you mould the metaphor into a bright new telling. Maybe you are not the full shilling but you're viewpoint is always arresting and interesting and couched in an image so new it can take your breath away. Do you know there is a book by(says she going off on a tanget!) by Ogden Nash called YOU CAN'T GET HERE FROM THERE with a large cartoon lady trying to put on a shoe! You weren't referring to this in the title were you...knowing you...I wouldn't put it past you! You make me chuckle and cry at the one and the same time. I laughed at the cleverness of this (and like Jesus) I wept at its sadness. You are the only person I know who can make sadness...kinda beautiful? Somehow this alchemy occurs in magic of your words. I would like to translate this poem
This is so cleverly and powerfully done and turns a good trick with its quick quirky wit and surreal expression. 'Finally arriving at where I didn't want...to be! ' is a fantastic killer line. Oddly enough the surreal nature of the poem only serves to nail down the inexpressible realness of the poem. A real tour de force where pain is made tangilbe and the words drip blood. Loneliness personified. So well told! love Dee Dee
