Getting Old Poem by Tom Billsborough

Getting Old

Rating: 5.0

So many names redundant,
Dead or gone way.
I'll start a new address-book
Deleting yesterday.

And yet we need reminders
Of those whom once we knew.
Many are but gravestones
The rest are now too few.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I was going through our old address book and was shocked to see how many
names had been crossed out, probably over 80%.

I think this is a difficult aspect of aging and living...the loss of people you once loved. Living is not for the faint of heart. I also think that memory is a precious gift...and while we don't want to live in the past, and lose our present, we never want to lost those memories either.
