God Bless Vietnam Poem by NHIEN NGUYEN MD

God Bless Vietnam

Rating: 4.3

Forty years have just passed
I have spent one half of my life in this foreign land.
As I reflect on my life tonight
I wonder how many more years I will roam this earth.
I still long for my native place of birth
I remember familiar sky with clouds and mists
Spreading over hills and mountain range.
So many changes forty years contained
So many deaths, so many newborns.
My parents already are far gone
Few of my aunts and uncles are still around.
Forty years have gone
I have spent one half of a man's life to rebuild my new life.
My children have grown and they have their own lives
I wonder when I will say my last goodbye.
My one life span covers two countries and two continents.
These countries are connected by the great Pacific ocean.
The life is peaceful here
I pray that Vietnam will be equally safe.
Watching the sky I send my soul with floating clouds.
Longing for native land, my soul builds new bridge over Pacific ocean.

Thank you for reading the Vietnamese translation to me. The flow and rhyming words were beautiful. Thank you for writing this heart-felt poem and sharing your deep feelings. I can't begin to image the sadness and devastation that you, your family and the people of your country went through 40 years ago. Hopefully this poem will help to bring them some peace also as they continue to heal. I sent this poem to my Vietnamese friend and veteran, who has devoted his life to helping families in Vietnam rebuild their lives. God Bless you and him.
