Good Deeders Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Good Deeders

Good deeders chased away.
Are enticed to come back.
As apologies are extended.
Along with homemade welcome mats.
But too long had it been,
The ruining of their reputations.
And smeared integrities.
That began without end.
To leave good deeders left to believe,
That a keeping their peace of mind...
Will never again be sacrificed,
By those easily deceived.
To perceive those committed,
To a doing of good deeds for others...
Will again return,
Without having lessons to have learned.
That built bridges to intentionally burn,
Will have them observed...
Attempting again,
To be scarred and wounded.
While others sit,
Awaiting to cross bridges.
To complain how they were built.
And why they were not asked,
For their permission to approve...
The design.
And who decided with it determined,
The qualifications of those...
Volunteering to offer,
Their good deeds to expedite the process.
Again.
To delay any progress to be made.
While debating,
Over the sincerity of their aging apologies.
To prioritize the nonsense of their senselessness.

"Uh...
One moment.
We are in a private meeting.
And you people are...? "

-The 'good deeders'.
You requested our return.-

"Oh. Yes, yes, yes.
If you don't mind,
We are debating how best to use you.
Give us...uh...
At least another week.
We should have a decision by then."
