Good Excuse Poem by Glen Kappy

Good Excuse

Late March
and on Spring Break.
A gloomy morning.
Yesterday was uninviting too
with wind and rain.

I tell myself
that things outside
should dry
before my work
out there continues.

I turn from window
then proceed
to grab my book
and get in bed—
read on.

Nothing like a good book. Of course, Nature comes first. :) I consider books as our best friends for life. Glen, hope all is fine with you and you are smiling too.

yes, fine and smiling looking at your comment, geeta. slow in my life to appreciate the nobility in work, it's hard for me to feel fulfilled if i haven't gotten work done. but yes, when a book has got me hooked, and the weather doesn't lend itself to the work to be done, and remembering i am semi-retired after all, i feel okay indulging myself in a book. thank you for taking the time to read and comment. be well in every way! -glen

Our mind will find some excuse to relax when we are not in a good mood to work! Inclement weather will discourage us from doing outdoor activities. Moreover a good book is always an alluring object to dissuade us from work! Enjoyed your open admission!

I’m glad you enjoyed it, Valsa, and glad you got this poem so perfectly. I got back outside the next morning—it was beautiful, and wrote Let me Not Say. Be/stay well. -Glen

Ah, yes. I remember doing such things because the siren call of a book was irresistible especially since there was a gale force wind outside [a leaf was stirring], the air quality was poor and one's lungs might be damaged [a puff of dust was knocked off the branch when a bird landed]. What a beautiful world it would be if a new book to read was sufficient cause to skip work... love thie poem and the independent spirit in which it was written.
