Gullibility Poem by Gerald Opio

Gullibility

Oh my heart
Embodied with kindness
Pure intentions allover
At the expense of its own serenity

You do not pay evil with evil
So divine you are
Forgiving barbaric deeds
Yes, to err is human
But not recurringly a homologous deed

When will you ever learn
That good is taken for granted
Fondly taken advantage of
Yes, I know - it's not in your nature to do bad
Gullibility has cost us a lot

People seek for pardon with plastic smiles
And susceptible to them we are
Even when it's all written in the air
That they lack sincerity;
Not even an iota of remorse

Being gullible isn't our fault
Neither is doing good
Nevertheless, doing good is desireable
But in forgiving, we always seek for tranquility
Though our efforts are always dragged down the drain

But let's not grow weary
Or even stop doing good
Doing good has no stench of evil
Benevolence is admirable;
Malevolence is rebukable

A reiteration on forgiveness
To err is human;
To forgive is divine.
Let's always pardon
Those who do us bad
Not for their sake;
But for our own sake and peace of mind.
