Happiness Revisited Poem by Juan Olivarez

Happiness Revisited

Rating: 5.0

Happiness is getting an early morning phone call,
From a first cousin, whose voice,
You had not heard, in too long.

Happiness are the Pussy Ears, and Chocolate Soldiers,
Dropping leaves to the Earth,
And new plantlet's, forming at the wounds.

Happiness is watching a Yellow Jacket,
Satiating it's thirst, on a single drop of rain,
On the dark green leaf of a Plumeria.

Happiness are shriveled aloes in the rain,
Waking to plump healthy leaves,
And golden red spines, in the morning light.

Happiness is the Indian Corncob,
With it's myriads of colors, and columns,
And multiple spiny fingers, standing proud.

Happiness, are the Mexican Ghost Plants,
In yellow, pink, grey, and lavender,
Resplendent in the morning sun.

Happiness, are my God given eyes and senses,
That take it all in,
As a smile plays on my ancient face.
