Hard - Poem by Kelly Kurt

Switching places
Being there
Been there
So close
Miles away
Decades, instant
How often seen?
One way
Not the first, not the last
Good luck
I will never know

I had to read your poem at least ten times to let it sink in... Good thing it's short. So... I hate it! No, not really... But the idea or thought you write about disturbs me just a bit. I've felt similarly, though not with young men in their twenties playing music, but maybe around young women. The lines Being there/Been there and then the last line I'll never know... Sum up this write for me. Tfs! (Report) Reply

I tapped some words into a draft on my cheap phone's texting function throughout the night and the next day I was going to try to use them as parts of a poem, I just wrote them down verbatim instead

A strange journey that will end,
    Who it's purpose can defend?
    Fluctuating between past and present
    Feelings are not always pleasant.

    I think I hear you.

I still feel like an 'outsider' but the door is ajar.

I have the feeling that this poem is not primarily addressed to the younger men, if at all, but rather to that self inside you which has and is going through transformations. You probably have things you could say to these younger men, and they might listen, and they might take what you say to heart. BUT instead you take an indirect path of this poem which is free of judgment and expresses advice very subtly. Are they listening? They need to, they must.[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[''''''''''['============['======================['====================================['==============================================='======================================================================'====================================================================================================================================['================================================================================'=============================================================================='============================================================================================================================================================'================================================================================================================================================'==========================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================; (Report) Reply

They are an interesting breed. Partially open to logic and the impact of reality, partially hopeful beyond any reason and appreciative of my efforts to define the differences. I have some doubt as to my influence beyond my lifespan, but I think these young men will remember that I cared enough to risk humiliation to improve their views. I may never know

The memories and moments we all have, good and bad, and we switch between them... A very fine poem Kelly.. As someone who took up writing just to ease his mind, and an atheist and vodka enthusiast, I wish you all the best in producing wonderful works that will ease that unrest, and troubled state of my we all have.. Keep penning them Kelly.. (Report) Reply

My dear friend, Souren. How I wish I could stand in the same space as you and discuss things in a manner we both acknowledge. So many things are difficult, but to avoid them through rhetoric is to dismiss our position.

Being there and being there with here far from miles of way and wishing good luck is definitely interesting in care. Life is very mysterious to understand. Knowing this is magic. Wonderful thought shared here.10 (Report) Reply

My mind is at a state of unrest. Writing does not solve this but eases the pain

Nicely thought poem on life, so close yet far and between the two ends.10+++ (Report) Reply

Thank you my friend. Most of the words came to me while sitting and listening to a group of 6 young men (35 yrs younger than I) playing music. I had done the same when I was in my 20s and the moment brought an onslaught of thoughts.
