Hard To Take Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Hard To Take

No 'entitled' life.
To have their way.
Living life as they like.
Can these days,
Choose to stay this stubborn.
In the presence of a virus.
Caring less about 'rights'.
Or 'entitlements' threatened,
By those protesting...
Against death to want,
A return back to live...
The 'normalcy',
Of their dysfunctional lives!

People long deluded,
Are afraid their fantasies...
They will lose.
If they keep a 'social distance'.
And people made to sacrifice,
Never had before this to do.
To find appalling and offensive.

Well...
Truth is truth.
And refusing it can cause much pain.
Hard to take even if medicated.
Truth is truth.
And does not care who disbelieves,
By staying in its way to disobey.
Truth does not discriminate.

We all are living in a time,
No longer can the people find...
Any reason not to listen.
Or pay attention.
To reluctantly use common sense.
With a returning back,
To occupy long vacant minds.
And hope that light,
Can be switched from 'off' to 'on'.
If the power to allow it,
Has not completely gone.

Truth is truth.
And hard to take when faced.
When delusions become drained.
Attacked by reality.
With no defense to pretend it.
Or faked pretensions to charade.
