She carries her breakfast plate from the kitchen
to the outside patio; where she will sit and eat
with her husband of fifty years under the big umbrella.
They will watch the Carp jump in the canal out back
and listen to the birds sing their spring mating songs.
Life for them is good; much the way it is suppose to be
when two lovers grow old together and have survived
the many cancers that plague a healthy marriage.
He looks at her with the look of love still evident in his eyes,
and asks her if there is any extra bacon….
She learned a long time ago to always leave him hungry for more….
